Arson Investigators Subrogation Webinar Series (Joint Education Webinar with IAAI)
“Investigating and Pursuing Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Fires”
Tuesday, May 4, 2021 – 1 p.m. EST
Attendees will develop an understanding of the basic components and function of vehicle and heavy equipment electrical systems, how those systems differ from the building article systems, and how these electrical systems cause fires. Attendees will develop knowledge of certain practical subrogation considerations, such as the use of specialized experts, government recalls, and the application of the economic loss rule.
There will be a visual presentation which will include still photographs, diagrams and video illustrating the design, componentry, and problem points of vehicle and heavy equipment electrical systems.
This webinar has been approved for one hour of CE adjuster CE adjuster credit for Delaware, Florida, North credit for Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas. In order to receive CE credit, attendees must attend the entire webinar d answer all polling and answer all polling and answer all polling and survey questions.
Presenters – Kevin Smith – Stutman Law & KR Davis – Jensen Hughes
Kevin Smith’s practice is concentrated in the area of property casualty and insurance litigation since 1985. He has extensive trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Mr. Smith’s experience includes subrogation actions arising from building fires, flooding and water damage, warehouse losses, and construction accidents. He has also successfully litigated many ocean marine and inland marine cargo damage subrogation claims. Mr. Smith has extensive experience in managing the investigation of very large losses involving multiple parties and experts. He has developed specialized knowledge in the area of product liability cases involving plastic plumbing components, metal halide lights, highly combustible plastic materials and solar electric arrays, in addition to boiler and machinery losses.
KR Davis is a Senior Electrical Engineer with a background for determining root cause analysis with eight years of direct forensic engineering experience; including certified in fire and explosion investigation of structures and vehicles, able to draw upon more than 20 years of product development engineering skills honed by real-life experiences throughout the entire product lifecycle (design-launch-post production). Represent both plaintiff and defense in more than 200+ cases; provides depositions; written (and illustrated) engineering reports; trained in evidence handling; able to work in confrontational situations; trained in the art of interviewing; skilled problem solver. Managed both technical and non-technical work groups. Experienced in interpreting and applying regulatory requirements vs. design guidelines/best practices.
