IAAI-(V)® (Motor Vehicle Fire)

The Motor Vehicle Fire Credential Endorsement program encompasses the subcategory of passenger motor vehicle fire investigation. All applicants must possess either the IAAI Fire Investigation Technician designation (IAAI-FIT®) or the IAAI Certified Fire Investigator certification (IAAI-CFI®). The IAAI-FIT® and IAAI-CFI® are administered by the IAAI and are designed to verify an applicant’s level of fundamental knowledge as measured against various core job performance requirements (JPR) of NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator and other guidelines related to fire investigation. The MVFCE attaches to the holder’s IAAI-FIT designation, unless they hold the IAAI-CFI certification, in which case it attaches to the IAAI-CFI.

How do I earn the IAAI-MVFCE?

The applicant for the Motor Vehicle Fire Credential Endorsement must currently possess the IAAI-FIT® or IAAI-CFI® credential before applying.
The applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years of specific experience of fire investigation which shall be directly involved with the investigation, and documentation of motor vehicle fire events. Sufficient documentation to support experience claimed, such as employment records or letters of certification from employers documenting work experience.
Have completed a minimum of 26 hours of tested training, which must include:
- CFITrainer.Net - Investigation of Motor Vehicle Fires (4 hours)
- CFITrainer.Net - Motor Vehicles: The Engine and the Ignition, Electrical, and Fuel Systems (3 hours)
- CFITrainer.Net - Motor Vehicles: Transmission, Exhaust, Brake, and Accessory Systems (3 hours)
- IAAI Motor Vehicle Fire Investigation Course (16+ hours)
Provide documentation of meeting minimum requirements including experience, training, and education. Supporting documentation can either be contained in a transcript or on a course certificate.

To obtain the Member discount rate, please login to your www.firearson.com account. A non-Member may choose to join IAAI prior to filing the IAAI-FIT® application. Once you have submitted the application, it will be reviewed by the IAAI-FIT® Committee. If the application is approved, you will then be provided with instructions on how to take the examination. If the application is not approved, you will be advised of the appeals process. I already hold the IAAI-MVFCE endorsement, and need to renew. What do I do?

You must renew your MVFCE at the same time as your IAAI-FIT or IAAI-CFI.

Applicants applying for renewal of this credential endorsement must provide documentation of continued meeting of minimum master credential program requirements.

If an individual allows their master credential or this credential endorsement to lapse or expire, they must reapply for this program.

Purchase the correct application, according to your master credential.

You will receive two emails: a receipt with a payment number, and a second email with a link to the online application to upload your documentation. If you are not an IAAI member, you may obtain the member rate for recertification by joining IAAI prior to returning the Recertification Application.

Recertification Applications should be submitted at least 30 days, but no more than 6 months, prior to your certification expiration date. Application fee is non-refundable.

After paying the application fee, you will be required to submit your application, including all supporting documentation. IAAI renewal applicants are not required to retake the exam.
