Fire Investigator

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Fire Investigator to conduct origin and cause investigations on behalf of attorneys and insurance companies. This role involves fieldwork, evidence documentation, report writing, and timely submission of findings. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working both independently in the field and collaboratively with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct fire and explosion investigations to determine origin and cause
Travel to fire scenes using a company-provided vehicle
Document scenes through photographs, sketches, and detailed notes
Collect, preserve, and analyze physical evidence in accordance with industry standards
Collaborate with attorneys, insurance adjusters, and other stakeholders
Prepare clear, accurate, and defensible written reports for clients
Submit all reports, documentation, and case materials in a timely manner
Maintain organized case files and adhere to deadlines
Testify in depositions or court proceedings as needed (if applicable)
Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices
Qualifications:
Required: Current certification as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) or Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) through the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI)
Prior experience in fire investigation, law enforcement, insurance investigations, or related field preferred
Knowledge of fire science, fire behavior, and investigative techniques
Familiarity with NFPA 921 and other relevant standards is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Willingness to travel locally and occasionally long-distance
