BASIC INVESTIGATION
For new investigators who have limited fire investigation experience. Jason Mardirosian and John Gamboa will lead the class through the lecture and hands on investigation techniques. **This course meets the IAAI 40 hour Basic Fire Investigator course. You will learn:
Scene safety
NFPA 921 and 1033 and their importance
Basic electrical systems
Fire dynamics
Scientific methodology
Scene documentation
Evidence recognition and collection
Legal aspects of fire investigation
Basic origin and cause
The 16 Job Performance Requirements from NFPA 1033
Conduct an investigation from start to finish

At the completion of the course, students will be able to test for the Alaska Fire Investigator Technician or Alaska Certified Fire Investigator  once additional components are completed by student. 100% attendance is mandatory for testing.

Reminder: Pre-requisites for Alaska CFI are Haz-Mat Awareness and AK FIT. Students that do not have pre-requisites completed prior to CFI test, AFSC will grant a one year window to complete to receive your official CFI certification.

ADVANCED INVESTIGATION
For the seasoned or more experienced fire investigators, this track will transition from the basic fundamentals of a fire investigation to the more complex scenes. Instructors will lead the class in lecture and hands on training through investigations that involve:

Post blast and explosives (Instructors: FBI & Juneau PD Bomb Squad)
Fire death investigations (Instructor: Chief Ernie Misewicz)
Complex and large scale fire investigations) (Instructor: Chief Ernie Misewicz)
