This two hour session will provide an overview of changes to the chapters on methodology and fire science for the 2021 edition of NFPA 921. These two chapters are foundational to the entire document. Without a clear understanding of the scientific method and how to apply it to and investigation, the investigator is open to serious challenge in court. Fire science is the foundation of fire effects, fire patterns and all other technical aspects of the investigation. Without an understanding of the science underpinning the investigation and analysis, the investigation may be flawed at it base.
Learning objectives:
The student will identify and understand the changes to the chapter on methodology and how to implement the scientific method in a practical way.
The student will identify and understand the changes to the chapter on fire science and how these changes may impact the investigation.
