The Deputy Fire Marshall Performs a wide variety of fire prevention activities including inspections, plan reviews, fire investigation and community risk reduction activities.
Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, performs journey level work in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Requires the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance. Designs and implements fire safety education programs and classes for the general public, community groups, schools and other institutions. This position interacts extensively with the public. Direct supervision of line personnel is not a function of this position. Supervises reserves and line firefighters when temporarily assigned to the Bureau of Fire Prevention to provide additional personnel for fire investigations, inspections, or other activities directly under the control of the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s Degree, received from an accredited college/university, in Fire Science, Construction Management, Building Engineering and Management or other related field.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in fire prevention including fire investigation in a paid or combination fire department.
• Must be certified to the International Code Council Fire Inspector I at time of hire and be able to obtain the International Code Council certification for Fire Inspector II within twelve (12) months of initial hire.
• Must be certified to the International Code Council certification for Fire Plans Examiner or equivalent, or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months of initial hire.
• Must be certified to International Association of Arson Investigators certification as a Fire Investigation Technician (FIT) at time of hire.
• Must have current valid driver’s license at time of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree, received from an accredited college/university, in Fire Science, Construction Management, Building Engineering and Management or other related field.
• Certified Fire Marshal through the International Code Council or Credentialed Fire Marshal through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
• International Association of Arson Investigators certification as a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI).
