Assistant Fire Marshal
Job Function Highlights
The Assistant Fire Marshal is integral to the City’s public safety team. This position conducts inspections of new, existing, and under-construction buildings and businesses to ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations. They review plans and collaborate with business owners, contractors, architects, and engineers to discuss potential problems and find code-compliant solutions. The successful candidate has a passion for fire prevention and establishing constructive relationships with colleagues, the general public, and business owners to enhance the effectiveness of the organization.
The person in this role is primarily responsible for the following:
- Collaborating as a member of the Fire Department team to foster a positive work environment and a culture that inspires trust inside and outside the organization.
- Conducts inspections of new, existing, and under-construction buildings and businesses to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes and regulations; performs follow-up inspections as required.
- Receiving and reviewing various reports and documents for completeness, accuracy, and content, including inspection reports, architectural drawings, building specifications, material test certifications, and technical information.
- Responds to emergency scenes to investigate fires and determine their origin and cause (Based on initial qualifications).
- Makes recommendations on issuing court citations or the temporary closing of businesses or construction sites for uncorrected fire safety violations.
- May assist in home fire safety inspections, smoke detector installation, and the presentation of educational programs to various age groups and civic organizations.

Requires a High school diploma or GED; three (3) years’ experience as an Assistant Fire Marshal Level I, II, or III. Resumes are required.
