City of Prescott - Building Dept. Fire Inspector/Plans Examiner

Job Summary:
• Schedules timely inspections of new construction, business license inspections and TI’s’; performs field inspections of fire protection systems and other occupancies for compliance with the International Fire Code, local amendments and adopted NFPA standards; ensures conformance with all codes, adopted standards and regulations.
• Reviews commercial and residential construction documents for compliance with the International Fire Code, local amendment, and all related NFPA standards; fire and life safety plans, coordinates with other City units including Community Development to ensure plans are reviewed for compliance with building codes; tracks plans at various stages of the review/approval process. Other duties as assigned.

Job Description:
• Special Requirements: Must possess certification from the International Code Council as a Fire Plans Examiner or a Fire Inspector I certification. Must possess both certifications within twelve (12) months of hire. IAAI Fire and Arson I and II preferred.

• Qualifications: High School Diploma and a minimum of five (5) years combined experience as a Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Inspector, or building safety fire protection design. Candidate of choice must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test prior to being placed in the position. Candidate of choice must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire.
