Under the supervision of the Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector is responsible for performing; field inspections for building code compliance, corrective actions for fire and life-safety violations; reviewing building plans and fire system plans and specifications; field inspections for new construction projects: assures compliance with fire prevention codes; responds to major emergencies within the Fire District; investigates structure and wildland fires; delivers fire prevention and public education programs.

Minimum Qualifications*:
• One (1) year of experience with a local or State jurisdiction inspecting public, commercial, and residential structures for compliance with applicable fire codes after attainment of NFPA Fire Inspector I or as a Fire Inspector I with the ICC
• One (1) year of plans examination experience for a local or State jurisdiction acquired after attainment of International Code Council (ICC) certification as Plans Examiner I
• NFPA Fire Investigator I
• Current CPR certification
• Nevada Driver’s License (within 30 days of appointment)
Conditions of Employment:
• In Compliance with General Order 1, fitness testing*
• Successfully complete the National Fire Academy's Fire Investigation Essentials course (R0772) or an approved equivalent course within two (2) years of appointment
• Maintain current minimum qualifications for employment including Nevada Class C driver's license
Desired Qualifications:
• NFPA Firefighter II
• NFPA certification at the Hazardous Materials Operations level
• Nevada State and/or National Registry: AEMT or Paramedic
• AA Degree in Fire Science or Natural Resources
• ICC Plans Examiner II
• NFPA Fire Inspector II
• IAAI Certified Fire Investigator
• Hazardous Materials Technician
• NFPA Fire Service Instructor 1
• Incident Management Team experience
• Geographic Information System (GIS) experience
• Experience in Training Division, Administration, and/or human resources
• Nevada Driver's License w/ F endorsement
Salary and Benefit Information**:
• The salary range is $69,370 - $83,520
